BIOTECHNOLOGY

Description: 

Students are introduced to the application of microorganisms, biological systems, and processes to manufacturing and service industries. The course examines the role of microorganisms in industrial, agricultural, and pharmaceutical processes; biologically produced sources of energy (single cell protein); waste management, mining, and other areas. The impact of genetic engineering, enzyme biotechnology, recent advances in genetics and physiology of industrial micro-organisms for strain development will be discussed.
